Drive Your Car Through the Rain
This fall has been a weird one for me. For reasons I haven't been able to quite put my finger on, I've been feeling a little down in the dumps, a bit more introspective and reclusive than I'm used to. I'm not usually one for wallowing about feeling sorry for myself--actually quite the opposite; ordinarily, I'm annoyingly enthusiastic and unfailingly positive about almost everything. I mean, I was a cheerleader, for god's sake. Yep, a mini-skirt-wearing, tumbling, pom-pom-waving cheerleader. So going through a weeks-long period where I'm not feeling so great for NO GOOD REASON AT ALL basically just pisses me off. Anyway. So. I entertained the thought of making up one of those "All the Things I'm Grateful For" lists but then remembered that those never really work, so I instead, I decided to put on my very favorite Rugby varsity jacket and take a walk around the neighborhood because wearing said varsity jacket always makes me feel like I'm in college again doing an awesome walk of shame across campus without a care in the world. And you know what? It worked. All better! Well, not quite, but it definitely perked me up a little. I highly recommend it for those days when you can use a bit of cheering up.
And lastly, here's something that Marilyn Monroe (that bottle-blond queen of moodiness) once said: I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I Can See All Your Moves Are New
It's the official first day of fall today. Do you ever get a feeling that something great is about to happen; that you're just waiting, on the brink of some key moment, a turning point that you will look back on years from now and remember as a point of consequence, a brief flash of time that happened to carry some unforeseen weight. Sounds weird, I know, but every once in a while I get some kind of intuitive feeling of expectation and it's never been wrong. I have it now.
The boy expressed a bit of sadness that summer was over via text last night and my instant response was, "Fall is going to be great, I can tell." And it's true. In more ways than one. September is a fresh start for all of us--it's time to take the reins on all of the things we want, all the secret little thoughts and hopes, and start making them happen. There's nothing that's out of reach and that's an irrevocable fact--as long as you don't talk yourself out of believing it, of course. :)
I love the weather in New York right now--it's just chilly enough to start putting on the layers and adding things like socks and gloves and hats to my ensembles, but not so cold that I'm reluctant to go outside at all. I'm wearing: Alexander Wang shorts (skort?), Charlotte Ronson tee, Joie jacket, Topshop hat, Madewell socks, Jessica Simpson shoes. Happy fall. xo

And All Your Love I'll Take To My Grave
I'm taking this weekend off to do nothing but hang out at home, relax, read my new cookbooks (yes, I read cookbooks as though they were novels), finish The Elegance of the Hedgehog, organize my apartment, and watch movies. I'm anticipating a super hectic week next week with Fashion's Night Out and the beginning of New York Fashion Week, so I'm thinking it's probably a good idea to disappear for a few days and recharge my batteries, so to speak.
This is my current favorite sweater. It's Alexander Wang and it's the coziest thing to wear around the house when you're doing just about nothing. I've also been known to wear it straight out at night when I'm too lazy to get dressed for a night out. I think it works pretty well in either scenario--gotta love a multifunctional piece. The socks are Madewell and they are the perfect pair of grey thigh-highs. So comfy.
Hope you guys have Labor Day plans a little more exciting than mine--see you next week. xoxo
