Some Future in My Eyes Bright

During the winter, something in my brain does a switch and suddenly, all I want to wear is layers of Ralph Lauren. Unlike the summer months, when I'm running around the city in a barely-there slip of something, I tend to take a decided turn to preppy when it's cold outside. There's something so cozy about piling on long cardigans, cashmere scarves, thick wool skirts, and pretending you're roaming around a campus with a tattered copy of T.S. Eliot poetry instead of bounding from meeting to meeting clutching your Blackberry like your life depends on it.

Drive Your Car Through the Rain

This fall has been a weird one for me. For reasons I haven't been able to quite put my finger on, I've been feeling a little down in the dumps, a bit more introspective and reclusive than I'm used to. I'm not usually one for wallowing about feeling sorry for myself--actually quite the opposite; ordinarily, I'm annoyingly enthusiastic and unfailingly positive about almost everything. I mean, I was a cheerleader, for god's sake. Yep, a mini-skirt-wearing, tumbling, pom-pom-waving cheerleader. So going through a weeks-long period where I'm not feeling so great for NO GOOD REASON AT ALL basically just pisses me off. Anyway. So. I entertained the thought of making up one of those "All the Things I'm Grateful For" lists but then remembered that those never really work, so I instead, I decided to put on my very favorite Rugby varsity jacket and take a walk around the neighborhood because wearing said varsity jacket always makes me feel like I'm in college again doing an awesome walk of shame across campus without a care in the world. And you know what? It worked. All better! Well, not quite, but it definitely perked me up a little. I highly recommend it for those days when you can use a bit of cheering up.

And lastly, here's something that Marilyn Monroe (that bottle-blond queen of moodiness) once said: I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Falling Bombs are Shooting Stars Sometimes

The lovely folks at Ralph Lauren invited me to preview the new Rugby denim collection a little while ago, followed by a delicious dinner at The Lion with a super intimate group of six amazing fashion bloggers including Erica from P.S. I Made This, Jenn from Le Fashion, Elizabeth from White Lightning, Kelly from The Glamourai and Gala Darling.

I'm not usually very big on denim--I'm much more comfortable in dresses and skirts and I have an inordinately hard time finding jeans that fit me well. That's why it was such a surprise to me when I exited the fitting room that night wanting every single piece I had tried on. I don't know what it is those designers at Rugby are doing, but it's working. The skinny jeans fit me like a glove, had a super soft hand feel and a perfectly faded wash (so hard to find). The dark wide-leg jeans with suspenders were also amazing. But my favorite piece was the floor-length overall dress above. It's soft, comfy, a little bit dramatic, a little romantic, and definitely draws some major attention whenever I wear it out.

Check out all the Rugby denim here. xoxo
