Milk and Mode for MyHabit

I was incredibly excited when one of the coolest sites, MYHABIT, asked me to be a contributor to their fantastic new blog, The Fix. Jenny Feldman, an old friend of mine from my ELLE days, is running things over there, which is basically an iron-clad guarantee of great content. My Only Hiding Place

As the weeks winds down and my work emails slow down a bit, I'm getting more and more into the holiday spirit, and that, for me, means injecting a little sparkle into my wardrobe. Although I usually tend to err on the side of cautious when it comes to wearing full-out sequins, this light, knit sweater strikes a good balance between festive and refined for me. I love the dark midnight color and the random stripes of green going through it. What are you wearing for all of your holiday festivities?

Gathering the Setting Sun

It's officially Holiday Party Week. Meaning, I've got one every single night, including one I'm throwing with CA Creative's partner agency, King & Partners, on Friday. I'm exhausted just thinking about it. Good thing I got in plenty of relaxation time this weekend in the form of cooking (Swiss chard and lemon soup, Scott Peacock's chicken and rice, and red-wine-braised short ribs), movie-watching (Edward Scissorhands), and Christmas tree decorating. What did you guys do (or cook) this weekend?

I'm wearing a Zara sweater, a Necessary Objects skirt that I procured about 10 years ago while I was in college (no joke), Ash shoes, and Chanel bag. See? Sometimes, it's all about the high-low. Well, in this case, it's about the low-low-low-high. Sigh. All photographs by Mark Iantosca. xo

Stay Away from the Hooks

I'm back from Art Basel in one piece, just a little worse for wear. I've got a nifty little photo diary coming to you composed of pics snapped with my Leica V-Lux 30 and my iPhone, but until then, here's an outfit I put together using a pair of coated, super skinny J Brand jeans that the brand was kind enough to send me. I liked the contrast of pairing the cool, leather-like coating with a preppy, piped Rag & Bone blazer and a cashmere cableknit, but I imagine they'd look just as good with, say, a silk button-down Equipment top for a night out. You can see exclusive pictures on the J Brand blog HERE.

There's No Twilight Galaxy

Happy day before Thanksgiving! We have a sweet little half day here at the CA Creative offices, after which point I'll be doing stuff like going for a celebratory fried pizza lunch at Forcella, getting a much-needed trim and manicure, and doing some last-minute grocery shopping at Whole Foods for the big day. This year, I'm sticking around New York City to spend the holiday with my boyfriend's family. We're in charge of the salmon dip, brussels sprouts with bacon, deviled eggs, a side salad, and something chocolatey (I'm still trying to decide between my classic Texas sheet cake and the Butterfinger chocolate truffles from December's Bon Appetit). How are all of you spending this much-loved holiday weekend?

Looking for Something Life-Like

We've been really lucky with our extremely extended fall this year. Last night, I went to the annual ArtWalk benefit for Coalition for the Homeless in a floor-length, backless, red silk chiffon dress with nothing on over it--almost 70 degrees at the end of November is either a blessing or a scary sign of global warming in the form of changing weather patterns, or maybe both. The coat I have on in the pictures is my new favorite piece--I've worn it almost every day since picking it up spontaneously during a visit to the Isabel Marant store in SoHo. It's the perfect weight for days like these.

How Will You Wear Your Leisure

One of the best parts of the holiday season (and yes, it is officially the holiday season right now) is getting to bundle up in big, cozy clothes that could double as blankets. Down comforters, even. Such is the case with everything I'm wearing in the photos above. The army green April, May jacket tends to swallow me whole, it's so soft and voluminous. The Qi dress I'm wearing is made of the fuzziest cashmere, and is perhaps, a size too big, which is just fine with me. And the super supple leather on the Marni boots feel like thick, sturdy silk. Nice way to go about the day.

Silver Armor Shining

If the weather could stay like this indefinitely for the next, oh, six months or so, with maybe just one day of pretty white snow (exactly on Christmas), I would be a seriously happy New Yorker. I love the layering of light scarves, chic little jackets, and the option of wearing boots while still remaining sans tights. Alas, this sort of thing tends to last about five days total around these parts, so I'm basking in it while I can. One of my favorite new pieces (that happens to suit this weather perfectly) is the borderline weirdly fuzzy Isabel Marant jacket I'm wearing in the pics above. It's soft and cozy and provides just the right level of warmth for temperatures that hover right around 60 degrees.

Let Me Tell You My Last Thought

I have an unbreakable love for all pieces of clothing that are really sweatshirts in disguise. This Isabel Marant dress was my very first fall purchase (made all the way back in July at Barneys), and I've stared at it in my closet ever since then, just biding my time until the day I could take it for a test run on the first cool day of the season. Here we are in mid-October, and it's already become a constant in my weekly rotation. I love workhorse pieces like that, don't you?

Hope everyone's weeks are going well. I'm wearing an Isabel Marant dress, Wolford tights, Christian Louboutin shoes, Elizabeth & James sunglasses, and an Alexander Wang bag. All pictures by Mark Iantosca. xo

If I Seem Too Serene

Some of my favorite pieces for fall all thrown together in one look: bright red Equipment shirt (I need to pick up at least five more colors--I could wear their Signature blouse every day), Isabel Marant black high-tops, and an old Alexander Wang bucket bag. This week has been equal parts insane and thrilling. I've had some pretty exciting meetings that will hopefully launch a few amazing projects shortly. I also finally managed to turn in the latest draft of my book proposal (only three more sections to go!) to my agent after lagging on it for the last month or so (in my defense, fashion week took a lot out of me). Tonight, I'm looking forward to a cozy night in involving the Barefoot Contessa's roast chicken, mashed potatoes, my kale and potato soup, doing it's first reappearance since last winter, and hopefully getting in a movie or two before I fall asleep.

And All My Life Starts Now

Fashion week is officially over today and not a second too soon. Between our client Kanon Organic Vodka and their massive partnership with Milk, my all-too-often failed attempts at attending all the shows I wanted to see, and a few late nights, I'm completely done in and looking forward to an entire stretch of weekend with absolutely no social obligations whatsoever (besides hanging with Suz Monster, of course). Thankfully, we got a spurt of midsummer-like weather during fashion week, which made the situation way more pleasant--there's nothing that puts a damper on things like running around the city from show to show in the pouring rain the way we did during the first day. It's definitely not time to retire those summer whites yet. P.S. I've been too busy dealing with fashion week this week to actually post about it, but I promise that a round-up is coming soon.

Line of Signs

Happy first day of New York Fashion Week! Dum da dum dum. Just kidding, now that I get to pick and choose what I really want to go to (as opposed to being required to attend 50+ shows as a magazine editor), I actually enjoy the week much more. I started the morning off at Lord & Taylor for a breakfast with Lucky magazine where I (along with a few other bloggers, including one of my fave girls, Lindsey from Saucy Glossie) was unleashed before the store opened with $200 in gift certificate dollars to spend. I ended up with a super soft nude waffle-knit sweater by BCBG that I'm psyched to wear the second the temp drops just a bit more.

I then headed even further uptown to visit Edit, a chic store on the Upper East Side that stocks every single one of my favorite designers in one, really elegant space. Think Stella McCartney, Proenza Schouler, Carven, Isabel Marant, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alex Wang, and more. The buy is AMAZING--if you're on the island of Manhattan, it's a must. I picked out a nubby tweed Isabel Marant jacket (surprise, surprise), and was on my way. Best way to start fashion week ever.
